A steamer is a steaming pot made of wood, where "蒸" means steaming food. It is a cooking method in which ingredients are placed in a wooden steamer and cooked by steam from the bottom. The food is typically placed on the steamer for cooking. In Chinese cuisine, it is commonly used for making dim sum dishes. In Japanese cuisine, it is primarily used for steaming ingredients mixed with rice, such as red bean rice. In the traditional cuisine of Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, there is a famous steamed dish called "Unagi Seiro-mushi" (鰻のせいろ蒸し), which consists of grilled eel and rolled omelette placed on top of rice.
